If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Westmount Shul and Learning Centre, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. A tag has been placed on Westmount Shul and Learning Centre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Hello, Scutarus. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Westmount shul and Learning Centre".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 02:01, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Please be aware that Wikipedia articles cover only notable topics—those that have gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time, and are not outside the scope of Wikipedia. We consider evidence from reliable and independent sources to gauge this attention. The notability guideline does not determine the content of articles, but only whether the topic should have its own article.

In the case of organizations, an organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. Trivial or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability. All content must be verifiable. If no independent, third-party, reliable sources can be found on a topic, then Wikipedia should not have an article on it.

If you have some affiliation with this organization, then you should review Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. We advise people who have an association with a topic not to write about it, due to the inherent difficulty in adhering to Wikipedia's required neutral point of view. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 01:31, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

more specifically

[edit]

It is relatively uncommon for an individual church of synagogue or other religious congregation to be considered notable here--as is the case with many other community organizations. A case could be made for including them, as being an important cultural and education center in the area, and although I personally supported this in my early years at WP, the consensus was otherwise. The usual instances where one is accepted is when it is either a congregation of great historical importance in the area, or in a historic or otherwise notable building, especially an official national landmark.

The historic or other importance has to be shown by substantial third party references, just as was explained above. For the references in this article you had only, a long description of the Shul by one of its members--which is not independent, several of is own listings of services--which is neither substantial nor independent, and several mere listings. None of this is usable to show notability . I gather from the information in the references that this particular congregation is both small and new, and does not even have its own building. WP is not a directory--but we do normally as an exception provide lists of community institutions of some types, including synagogues, and Westmont is included in List of synagogues in the Greater Toronto Area. Some the ones in the list do have articles, and the ones I checked of them are either of historical significance for the development of Judaism in the area, or can otherwise be shown to be particularly important.
