Bahman Nassim (February, 1940 - January 28, 1980) was an Iranian record holder for the backstroke, as well as playing for the Iran men's water polo team between the years of 1958 - 1965. Bahman is known for his influence and early development of competitive swimming and water polo within Iran during the early 1960's, which ultimately led to successful teams in the 1970's. He also served as the Chief of Police for the city of Semnan, Iran, where he was arrested after the overthrow of the Shah, under charges of "Murder of persons and/or killing Muslims or/and freedom fighters". Bahman Nassim was executed by firing squad on the morning of January 28, 1980, at Evin Prison, Tehran, Iran.
Early Life
Bahman nassim . born feb 1940 - jan 28 1981. born in abadan , iran , older brother and coach and mentor off his younger brother hossein nassim . son of ramezan nassim naseri and Farideh hasson native of iraq .
the nassim family were notorious of being sport fanatic . some in swimming later water polo , some in diving and some in basketball . being sons and daughters of well respected head of the accounting department for NIOC ( national iranian oil company ) in abadan, his 11 children enjoyed a comfortable and high facilities in abadan . Unfortunatly he passed away in a car accident in summer of 1968 . by that time bahman was already focus of the news papers and media spot light for joining iranian national team in swimming and water polo . bahman nassim broke iran back stroke record in 100 meter in 1958 and hold on to it till 1959 . then gold was taken a way from him by Mr. daniel . he managed to hold on to the silver medal from 1960-1963 . he managed to stay in a national team for 8 years from 1958 to 1965 . meanwhile he saw a potential in his younger brother hossein nassim and he trained him till hossein finally broke 100 meter and 200 meter back stroke and kept the gold medal in the family for one decade .
Faith : one day bahman was doing his swimming practices as usual and when he got the attention of a high ranked army person and he asked bahman if he has any interest of joining military academy university and he accepted mainly cause drug trafficking was big issue in abadan since the city is a port city by nature that can become a hub for lots of activities . he wanted to bring drug dealers into justice and he moved up really quickly in his ranking and took over lots of risky and dangerous mission some weren't even authorized from higher ranks . eventually he was transfer to city of Semnan for an unknown reason, where he was Chief of the police department . where he was arrested after shah's regime was overthrown. He refused to give up his station till his arrest .
Death :
bahman nassim was executed by fire squat early morning of jan 28th 1981 in notorious Evin prison . He was wearing his national swimming team jumper at the time of execution .
Peronal life
bahman nassim survived by his wife and 2 daughters still living in iran . he was notorious to break down drug chains and gangs , passionately disliked smoking and drinking. He was a moderate Shia Muslim . His favorite female name was Shahnaz .
