Insight Venture Partners is an American private equity and venture capital firm based in New York, New York and founded in 1995 by Jeff Horing and Jerry Murdock. The firm focuses exclusively on software and Internet-enabled businesses and currently has a capital base of approximately $5 billion.[1]

The firm’s Executive Advisory Board includes Robert Rubin (Chairman of Citigroup and 70th Secretary of the Treasury) and Steve Friedman (Chairman of the United States President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and former Chairman of Goldman Sachs).

Controversy

Insight Venture Partners has recently faced criticism over its business model of adding monetization or "pay to win" elements to games such as Runescape [2] and Maplestory, angering many players who previously had enjoyed the games' level playing field despite real world circumstances approach [3][4], even causing several to quit [5]. Reactions on Runescape's forums against Insight Venture Partners got so bad, Jagex, the company which creates Runescape, had to censor the company name from forum posts[6].
