Introduction

Dhananjaya Gotra is a Gotra among Kshatriya Rajus of Andhra Pradesh, while the other Gotras are being Kasyapa, Vasishta, Kaundinya, Atreya, Viswamitra, and Pasupati which are the names of sages.

History

According to Mahabharata, a King named Dhananjaya ruled Hasthinapur with Indraprastha as capital between 550B.C and 500 B.C. He was a descendent of Yudhisthira Pandava of Lunar Dynasty. Kota Vamsa Kings, the ancestors of Rajus of [1] [2] Dhananjaya Gotra , are claimed to be the descendents of a prince named Dhananjaya. According to historian Buddharaju Varahala Raju, the raja pravara of Dhananjaya Gotra is “Bharata → Parikshit → Vishnuvardhan → Hariseema Krishna maharaj”[3] [4]

Disambiguation

According to Puranas , Dhananjaya is one of the Pravaras of Vishwamithra, an ascetic sage who was a Kshatriya king and hence some claim that Dhananjaya Gotra is a branch of Vishwamitra Gotra. Dhananjaya mentioned in Dhananjaya gotra of Kanyakubja brahmins and Goud Saraswat Brahmins was an aesthetic Brahmin sage. Historically there was a king named Dhananjaya of Kusthalapur (of Madhyadesa), who was defeated in the hands of Samudraguputa. There was also a disputed controversy that Prince Dhananjaya was born in the fourth caste ie., Sudra caste which was born from the feet of Lord Vishnu [5].
