Gus Van Go
Gus van Go (née Gustavo Coriandoli) is a Canadian musician and record-producer best known for his work with the Montreal band The Stills. He has also produced and mixed material for The Trews, Hollerado, Priestess, Ryan Malcolm, The Junction, Neverending White Lights, and many more.
In 2009, van Go won a “Alternative Album of the Year” Juno Award – the award given to Canadian musical artists as chosen by members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences – for his work on The Stills’ album Oceans Will Rise.
In 2010, he was nominated for the Producer of The Year at Quebec’s ADISQ awards, for his work with the band Les Trois Accords. Van Go (and his co-producer Werner F) also had three albums nominated for Album of the Year ADISQ: Dans Mon Corps (Les Trois Accords); Requiem Pour Les Sourdes (Vulgaires Machins); and Cité D’Art (Chinatown).
In 2008, Vulgaires Machins’ Compter Les Corps was nominated for a JUNO Award for “Best French-Language Album”.
Early Career
Van Go began his musical career as singer, guitarist and songwriter for the seminal Montreal indie-band Me Mom & Morgentaler. The band established a loyal cult following in the early 90s, and were known for their extravagant and theatrical live shows. Most notably, in 1999, over 10,000 people showed up for the band's farewell show in Quebec City.
In 1996, he moved to New York City, where he met musician and producer Werner F, who had previously worked with Paul Westerberg, Bob Mould, Hall & Oates, Cactus, and many others. After the success of The Stills’ 2003 debut Logic Will Break Your Heart, the pair decided to continue working together and have gone on to co-produce many albums - creating a strong link between the music scenes of NYC, Toronto and Montreal.
In 2008, he co-founded the record label Royal Mountain Records with Adam ‘Bix’ Berger, a former member of Me Mom & Morgentaler and a current artist-manager with the Canadian record label Arts & Crafts. In 2009, Royal Mountain Records released Hollerado’s debut Record in a Bag.
Gus Van Go is currently at work on the third album by Australian indie-pop group The Grates.
