Reusses

[edit]

Shouldn't all that interesting stuff about Reusses be on its own page (or a general Henry page which this isn't) so that the DISAMBIGUATION is clean? -- SGBailey 21:07 Dec 29, 2002 (UTC)

Probably yes. Let me give it a shot. -- Someone else 21:09 Dec 29, 2002 (UTC)

Origin

[edit]

The assertion that the English name Henry is derived from Germanic "Heinrich" is incorrect or at least misleading. The early medieval English nobility who adopted the use of the name were French-speaking and frequently continued to own estates in France, so it would be more accurate to say that the name is borrowed from French but ultimately derives from a Germanic base. :Since France ultimatively derrives from a Germanic state, the Frankish Empire and the French nobility were originally Franks it's not unusual for them to have Germanic names. "Heinrich" however is a distinct modern German form of the name. You can only say that the English/French "Henry" and the German "Heinrich" share common roots.--MacX85 (talk) 08:39, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-up

[edit]

This page was tagged for clean-up on 7th July; no reason was given. I've made some obvious changes; 1 blue link per line etc. and moved the list of those with Henry as a first name to Henry (given name). I'm a little unsure re where to place the ones with Henry as a personal name, mainly rulers. Additionally, some entries, eg.g Henry's law, do not seem to be known as Henry, but merely contain the word. Anyone know what to do with these? Any suggestions for how else this page may need clean-up? Thanks, Boleyn3 (talk) 12:11, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
