Transgender Rowers in Team GB?

[edit]

Have any of the female rowers in Team GB (or previous squads) been males who have undergone gender reassignment surgery to female? They are allowed to compete as females 2 years after the surgery under Olympics rules. If so, there should be a link to the Wiki page on Gender Reassignment.212.139.108.96 (talk) 22:09, 2 August 2012 (UTC)twl212.139.108.96 (talk) 22:09, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not as far as I am aware. If this was the case, and it was reported in reliable sources, then it could be included in the article. But if there aren't any sources saying so, it's not appropriate to speculate about the gender status of Grainger or anyone else. Robofish (talk) 22:26, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality?

[edit]

Why Scottish, and not British? Surely we should use citizenship rather than ethnicity? Can someone clarify? WP doesn't use ethnicity in lead para in any other case, does it (apart from British)? Would be absolutely chaotic if applied to Indians, Chinese, etc. Let's stick to a uniform rule please. We can revert to Scottish in lead para if Scotland becomes an independent UN and IOC nation in 2014. Happy to engage in a debate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.254.147.228 (talk) 13:06, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh do one, UK is made of countries..not ethnicities. 89.243.173.118 (talk) 09:12, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The precedent is that she competes for 'Great Britain and Northern Ireland' and is therefore described as British (Rowing is competed for at British level), If she had been a sports person from a sport that is competed for at Scottish level she would be described as Scottish. Athletes that compete for both are generally described as 'Scottish and British' (Chris Hoy)
