Is Seawolf Park a National Wildlife Recreation area? Postoak (talk) 03:35, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. Most of it is a spoil area, administered by the US government, where dredge material from the ship channel is dumped. George Mitchell owns some large tracts, but most of them would have to be remediated in order to be developed...and that costs lots of $$$$. Nearby locations such as North Deer Island (Texas) are wildlife areas, and TAMUG has a small wildlife "incubator/habitat" there, but thats about it. In the early 1900s, the island was home to the immigration quarantine station (where present-day Seawolf Park is) and the city garbage dump. --Nsaum75 (talk) 03:45, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The above account made unsourced edits of flippant tone which I've reverted. Autarch (talk) 19:41, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
