Chenkulam Dam is a dam located on the Mudirapuzha River in Idukki district of Kerala, India. The 144.50 m long and 27 m high dam was constructed in 1957 as part of the Chenkulam Hydroelectric Project. It also has a 48 MW power plant.

Hydroelectric Project

The Sengulam Project was mainly intended to utilise the tailrace water from Pallivasal project. The water released from the Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project is conveyed through a tunnel to the Chenkulam Reservoir. The project was commissioned in 1954 with an installed capacity of 48 MW (4 x 12 MW). Sengulam balancing reservoir was formed by constructing Chenkulam dam. The waterlevel in the Chenkulam balancing reservoir is kept within limits to avoid spill. The catchment area of the reservoir is approximately 5.18 sqkm. The tailrace discharge joins Mudirapuzha river and is flowing downstream to kallarkutty reservoir. The power house is situated at Vellathooval, Devikulam Taluk of Idukki District. [1]
