History of Baldwin-Wallace College

[edit]

BW conservatory of music

  • <s>Did you know that Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory is home to the Baldwin-Wallace Bach Festival, the oldest collegiate [[Johann Sebastian Bach|Bach]] Festival and the second oldest bach festival in the United States?</s>
  • Comment: Berea-First Congregational Church Conservatory of Music Annex (OHPTC) in 2009 the church became part of Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of music

  • Article is new enough and long enough (it was split from Baldwin-Wallace College, but there is plenty of new content to qualify the article as "new"). Hook does not refer to this article, nor link to it. Please provide a hook that this specific to this article. I did not review article for sourcing, originality of wording, or image eligibility. --Orlady (talk) 15:38, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
  • the Catch could be changed to "Did you know in the history of Baldwin-Wallace College, the school's conservatory of music celebrates its 80th year as the oldest collegiate Bach Festival and the second oldest Bach festival in the United States?" Pwojdacz (talk) 16:52, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT 1<s>... that in the '''[[History of Baldwin–Wallace College]]''', the school's conservatory of music ''(pictured)'' celebrates its 80th year as the oldest collegiate [[Johann Sebastian Bach|Bach]] Festival and the second oldest Bach festival in the United States?</s>
  • I have reformatted and labeled ALT 1 with the intention of reviewing it. But:
  • 1. I do not see why this was separated from the original article. Why should a college's history be separate? Anyone wanting to know the history would certainly look it up under the name of the college.
  • 2. The hook, as formatted, is worded really weird , mostly do to the title of the article. I don't see a way around this. I will check out everything else and let you know what I think.--Ishtar456 (talk) 13:59, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • Second opinion requested: Everything else checks out. There are no image issues. However, I really think this should be merged back into the original article. Perhaps if there is enough new content it would qualify as an expansion of the main article.--Ishtar456 (talk) 14:24, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • My last suggestion will not work. I checked the size of the original article from before you reduced the "History" section and it would not have been 5x. I'm just waiting for an opinion on whether or not this should even be a separate article.--Ishtar456 (talk) 14:55, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • I want to note that I have checked to see that it was a 5X expansion of the text that was removed from the original, and it is. But It would not be a 5x of the original article if it had stayed put.--Ishtar456 (talk) 16:33, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • I just want to throw out there that there are many schools with history pages. I just moved another section that relates to history more to the article. I understand that the wording is very strange in the tag. I am open to changing it or just removing the article from nomination all together. I figured it was worth a try Pwojdacz (talk) 23:22, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
  • Tell you what, if you give me some examples (of similar colleges) that do not include articles in which you were a significant contributor, I will place the tick on this.--Ishtar456 (talk) 00:22, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
  • I was originally going to ask for half a dozen, but I thought that would be asking a lot. Thanks. I'm convinced.
  • Everything checks out.--Ishtar456 (talk) 02:23, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT 2<s>... that according to the '''[[History of Baldwin–Wallace College]]''', the school's conservatory of music ''(pictured)'' celebrates its 80th year as the oldest collegiate [[Johann Sebastian Bach|Bach]] Festival and the second oldest Bach festival in the United States? (with above image)<s><nowiki><s>
New Alt. I just did not like the wording of the last.--Ishtar456 (talk) 02:26, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
I don't like ALT2 for its self-referential nature. I don't much like any of the hooks for their advertorial nature and for the fact that Baldwin–Wallace College Conservatory of Music is the subject of a separate article. I suggest a hook about the history of Baldwin-Wallace:
  • ALT3 ... that Baldwin-Wallace College takes its name from the merger of Baldwin University with German Wallace College, which had started out as a part of Baldwin University?
  • ALT4 ... that for many years the history of Baldwin–Wallace College was closely connected with the sandstone quarry industry in Berea, Ohio? --Orlady (talk) 16:45, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
  • does the catch have to start the article's title? If not it can simply state "did you know... Baldwin-Wallace College has the oldest collegiate Bach Festival in the United States?" or alt 3 would be fine. Pwojdacz (talk) 16:56, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Please hold while we sort out the issues with the hook. I need to take another look at the citations for the suggested hooks and I don't have time right now. No, the title of the article does not have to be in the beginning of the hook. I will help you with some more ideas later today. Take Care--Ishtar456 (talk) 17:37, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

  • I struck the rejected ALTS and reviewed the two new ones. Everything looks good with ALT 3, but I have some questions about ALT 4 that I will hold off on pending discussion with the nom. of another possible ALT.--Ishtar456 (talk) 21:00, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
  • I am ok with ALT3, it's fine. The school is being renamed in July to Baldwin Wallace University idk if that is worth noting. Honestly though I feel like ALT3 is better then ALT4. As well the Bach festival is really note worthy but I understand the wording was awkward. the radio station wbwc is noteworthy but the citation isn't independent.
Well in that case why not ALT 5 "... that Baldwin–Wallace College's school Conservatory of Music (pictured) celebrates its 80th year as the oldest collegiate Bach Festival and the second oldest Bach festival in the United States?" (with above image)--Ishtar456 (talk) 22:12, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
The nom responded to my last question elsewhere and I did not get the answer until now. This is all set with this Alt agreed on by reviewer and nom: ALT 5 "... that Baldwin–Wallace College's school Conservatory of Music (pictured) celebrates its 80th year as the oldest collegiate Bach Festival and the second oldest Bach festival in the United States?" (with above image)--Ishtar456 (talk) 00:15, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
