Development
On April 4, 2017, it was announced that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg would write, direct and co-produce a film adaptation of the comic for Universal Pictures. It was to be produced by Point Grey Pictures and Skybound Entertainment. Series creator Robert Kirkman was also set to produce the movie, alongside David Alpert and Bryan and Sean Furst.[2]
On June 19, 2018, it was announced that Amazon had given the production a series order for a first season consisting of eight episodes. The series, based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, is set to be showrun by Simon Racioppa who will executive produce alongside Kirkman, David Alpert, and Catherine Winder. Supervising Directors are to include Justin and Chris Copeland. Production companies involved with the series include Skybound.[1][3][4][5]
In January 2019, Steven Yeun, J. K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulos, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Hynden Walch and Max Burkholder joined the cast of the series.[6] Despite Rogen being involved as a part of the cast, he and Goldberg are not set to direct/write/produce the series, like they were set with the initial film.
