The scheduled third installment of the horror/thriller film series Saw. The film will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who also directed Saw II. The film will be produced by Mark Burg and Oren Koules, and written by Leigh Whannell and James Wan[1]. Filming is scheduled to begin May 8, 2006 in Toronto and is expected to run through July 3, 2006. Saw III is expected to be released on October 272006 by Lions Gate Films [2]. A teaser trailer of Saw III is being shown during the previews for The Descent, which is in theaters now. The trailer became available online on August 14th, 2006.[3]

The film will be dedicated to Gregg Hoffman, the producer of the first two Saw movies, who died on December 4 2005 shortly after announcing the third installment of the Saw series.

During the end of the teaser trailer, an image of the Jigsaw's puppet, Billie, is shown saying, "Hello, America...Do you want to play a game?" In select cities, Billie says the name of the city that the theater is playing in. (I.E. in Orlando, Florida he says "Hello, Orlando...") Template:Spoiler

Plot

Jigsaw has disappeared.

With his new apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) is unaware that she is about to become the latest pawn on his vicious chessboard.

One night, after finishing a shift at her hospital, Lynn is kidnapped and taken to an abandoned warehouse where she meets Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), bedridden and on the verge of death. She is told that she must keep the madman alive for as long as it takes Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), another of his victims, to complete a game of his own. Racing against the ticking clock of Jigsaw's own heartbeat, Lynn and Jeff struggle to make it through each of their vicious tests, unaware that he has a much bigger plan for both of them...

Games

The chain trap.
  • Twisting Crucifix --- So far the first trap revealed was a sort of crucifix that when strapped to it, has gears that twists the victim's head, arms, and legs around a full 360.[4]
  • Ice Shower --- During the teaser trailer that was given before The Descent, one of the traps revealed was a person suspended in what seemed to be an ice chamber. Spinning around her was a pipe-like structure that sprayed water on her nude body. This is similar to an act of torture given by the infamous Elizabeth Báthory.
  • Body Chains --- During the Lionsgate film panel at the 2006 San Diego Comic-Con, a first exclusive unedited clip of the film was previewed. It featured a man, Troy, who finds himself in an empty, forgotten classroom and then is soon greeted by Jigsaw's puppet on a television screen (much in the same style as Saw II). Billy (Jigsaw's puppet) reveals that the man had been in and out of prisons for quite a time and if he wishes to live he must break free of the chains that bind him there before the timer stops, detonating a bomb in the room. The problem is, his shackles are not only bound around his wrists, but through them and other parts of his body, including ones through his jaw, legs, lip, back and chest. As the timer starts, he painfully pulls the chain rings through his skin, but the seconds tick away and the timer nears the end. Similar to the opening scene in Saw II and the head trap scene featuring Amanda (Shawnee Smith) in Saw, the camera spins around the subject and the time speeds up as they struggle. Right as the timer's last second goes by, the time slows back to normal as the man looks to the timer and the Saw 3 Logo comes to the screen.
  • There is a glimpse of a man in a cage-like structure who's being drowned in a thick grey liquid[5]. Additionally, the beginning of the teaser trailer shows what looks to be Kerry in a trap of her own. Her middle and lower body appear to be encased in some kind of metal cylinder with arms coming out of it. The are two jars of greenish liquid hanging above her head. Also in an interview[6] at the Comic Con, Leigh Whannell revealed that one of the traps had to do with the loss of limbs - probably the metal crucifix.
  • There is also a glimpse of a man screaming "let me out" and hitting the roof while crouching possibly meaning that he may be locked in a box of some sort.

Trivia

  • Donnie Wahlberg will not be reprising his role as Detective Matthews because of creative differences.
  • According to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the producers of Saw III asked the producers of Scary Movie 4 if they could use their version of the Saw bathroom for Saw III, as it was an exact replica of the other two bathrooms used for Saw and Saw II, which were both dismantled. This means that the infamous bathroom will once again be shown in Saw III. There is a rumor on various talksites that the bathroom will be destroyed in Saw III in a blaze.
  • Since Tobin Bell said he would return for Saw IV, this means that Jigsaw will survive Saw III.
