When placing mottos, please include them in the top of the In Review section instead of the bottom. Thank you.

Note: If you are adding nominations for specific dates, holidays or other special reasons please add to the Specials section and NOT HERE. Also, please check the archives in case the motto has been submitted and subsequently approved before. If this is the case try to think up another motto instead. Please check Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations. Otherwise feel free to add your suggestion below.

"(What is it?)"
"The stuff that dreams are made of."

Sine ira et studio
("Without hate and zealousness")

Latin motto –pjoef (talkcontribs) 08:10, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism.

Edit 1 ~ What about this? I used Help:Drawing attention to new pages (for "her own society") instead of Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. It makes more sense to me, but I could be wrong. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 13:59, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ko te manu kai i te miro, nona te ngahere;
Ko te manu kai i te matauranga, nona te ao.
(The bird that feeds on the miro berry, his is the forest;
The bird that feeds on knowledge, his is the world.)

This is the proverb on my userpage; my translation is possibly not the best, but I think it's accurate. Can anyone think of links? sonia 01:10, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - I don't think that this one will ever work, to be honest; I don't think we should go around saying that everything on Wikipedia is right, and if what is actually real is different, the reality is wrong. ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 22:29, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - The first link is fine. However: "Close you eyes and use the manual of style" seems rather strange. The third link should only be over the third word in it, but I don't think it is necessary at all. The last link is weird; I almost never see the home page at all, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 22:53, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non scholae, sed vitae discimus
("We do not learn for the school, but for life")

My own interpretation of a Latin phrase that here means: an editor should not write articles to please Wikipedia or editors, but readers. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 09:43, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

recycle Reopened - not enough discussion. Simply south...... trying to improve for 5 years 21:37, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak oppose. I'm almost in favour, but I'm also not sure about the MoS link. From my limited powers of deduction in Latin, discimus must mean "learn", and I think there is a lot more to learning about Wikipedia than the MoS. Also, I admit to being a little biased against Latin mottoes... Mr. Stradivarius 14:17, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I also have a vendetta against slogans. Well, vendetta is a little strong, but there's just something about providing free advertising to companies as part of this space that doesn't sit well with me. Mr. Stradivarius 14:20, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit 1 - The last link is my way of saying something along the lines of "Gah! I can't come up with a link that actually works well! Er... I'll just throw a not-so-great one in, and hope nobody notices." Any better ideas for it would be lovely. :) ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 02:45, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
