Thanks for fixing up the Donald Leifert page

I created it way back in 2010 (when I was pretty inexperienced with editing on here) and it definitely needs some more work, as some could argue that certain parts might run afoul of MOS:OVERLINK for instance. So, I'll see if I can do a little more to improve it soon. --Historyday01 (talk) 13:07, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Historyday01: No problem! I'm glad people like us care enough to preserve the legacies of relatively obscure folks like this. I was surprised Leifert even had a page here. As for editing, I've found it's a continual learning experience. I've certainly made edits in the past that I'm downright embarrassed by now.—The Keymaster (talk) 09:38, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Boingo (1994) Album

What do you mean? Discogs is a very reliable source. It has scanned images of the liner notes that clearly shows all the credits and lyrics. I got all the info from there. Krisfrosz133 (talk) 02:22, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Krisfrosz133. Discogs is not an accepted reference here, as outlined in WP:ALBUMAVOID: "Info is user-submitted/uploaded and fails WP:USERG." If Discogs is used to glean information via images, you must cite the actual liner notes, not just link to Discogs. "Album jackets should be sourced directly using the Template:Cite AV media notes template." So I took the information you'd added and cited the liner notes directly. I hope that clears things up. Cheers. — The Keymaster (talk) 11:09, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

Weird Al liner notes

Hi Keymaster! Just a heads up: I think I was the one that added that note about Weird Al re-releases not containing liner notes. I believe it was because someone brought it up in a GAN review, perhaps? Either way, I don't intend to revert or anything; I just wanted to explain. :) Cheers!--Gen. Quon[Talk] 18:25, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Gen. Quon Interesting! If you find that GAN review, can you let me know? I'm curious to see what would have provoked such an odd critique. From what I know of the MOS, if we are citing the original liner notes directly, that should suffice. (Come to think of it, this is actually semi-related to an issue I'm currently trying to get resolved with regards to album information being sourced from and following the format of the original release.) Technically, the MOS implies that liners don't even need to be formally cited, and refs are only needed when there's pertinent info that's not contained in that release's notes, but I'm finding it's better to cite them anyway to prevent confusion.
It's clear a lot of care and love went into the Al pages, and I'm basically just tidying and fixing the personnel listings for better accuracy and to make them more up to typical WP standards. It seems a lot of the odder aspects of those pages are leftovers from a very long time ago. Anyway, thanks for commenting. The Keymaster (talk) 03:16, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to see if I can find it. It also might've been motivated by comments that I received when working on TV show articles; some people requested formal citations for plot summaries, airdates, cast lists, etc. Ever since, I've tended to provide these citations (even though they, like you mention, are almost certainly redundant) just to be safe! It's an interesting issue: Primary sources are OK to use as implicit sources, so long as OR is avoided. Sometimes that's super easy, but other times, it gets tricky. Either way, I appreciate your efforts! (I worked on a lot of those Weird Al articles 10+ years ago when I was not nearly as competent of an editor, so I think the occasional scrubbin' to buff away issues and bring 'em up to snuff is never a bad thing!)--Gen. Quon[Talk] 14:41, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gen. Quon I know how you feel. I began dabbling in editing here 16 years ago but only feel like I started to somewhat know what I'm doing within the last few years. You've got me thinking that maybe I should leave the footnote about the disappearing liner notes if I should come across it again, lest I incur the wrath of one of these editors you're mentioning. Haha. I plan on tidying up the personnel sections for the remaining AL-bums in the next day or two.
BTW, I briefly met Al back in 2001. I saw a Ben Folds show at a bowling alley in Los Angeles and Al was in the audience, about five feet to my left, so I said a quick hello and shook his hand. He surprised the heck out of me when he got up on stage and sang "Song for the Dumped" with Ben as an encore.
Cheers! The Keymaster (talk) 11:31, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's super cool. I've seen a few shows of his, but have yet to actually meet him. I've heard he's very nice, though! As an aside, have you read Weird Al: Seriously? I just got it the other day, and it's very interesting. I'm hoping to eventually integrate some of what I read into existing articles.--Gen. Quon[Talk] 01:57, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd never heard of that book until now, but that sounds great. Al doesn't get nearly enough credit for his musicianship, arranging skills, etc. Also, I love having an actual library of books to draw from when editing articles. It really comes in handy sometimes. The Keymaster (talk) 07:50, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You know what, I've been meaning to be better at awarding these, so here, have this:

The Copyeditor's Barnstar
In recognition of your efforts to make many of Weird Al's articles even weirder better, I award you this barnstar! :) Gen. Quon[Talk] 14:42, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that's very kind of you! Thanks so much. The Keymaster (talk) 11:24, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
